 About The Conference
This conference will provide a platform for students, scientists, technologists and people who are working with both macro- and microalgae to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of algae such as taxonomy, biology, physiology, ecology, cultivation, bioprocesses, biotechnology, bioinformatics and systems biology of macro- and microalgae, including value-added products and their applications. The conference is expected to facilitate updating of research work status, knowledge, technology and policy by the participants. Moreover, the conference is expected to expand the networks, partnerships and collaborations between experts in academic institutions and entrepreneurs in the field.

 

Objectives

 

  • To update the enduring research on the different fields of algae, exchange knowledge and share research experience.

  • To enable scientific interaction in algal research among the scientists and technologists in both government organizations and industry from all over India to facilitate new collaborations.

  • To provide an opportunity for students and young scientists to get exposed to recent developments in this vast expanding field to improve their vision and knowledge, to further advance their research.

Birth Centenary Celebration of Prof.V.S.Sundaralingam (1918-2018)

Department of Botany, SRUA and KIA is delighted to celebrate the 100th year anniversary in honour of (Late) Prof. V. S. Sundaralingam who has made outstanding contributions in the field of Algology especially Indian Charophytes.  He was an active teacher all through his life and continued his researches on the Indian Charophyceae. The monograph on the Charophyceae co-authored by him is the only one available till date for academic consultations.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

 

Registration, fee and submission of the abstract can be done through the online form available in conference web or you can visit directly the following link for the above mentioned https://bit.ly/2LtUQZs.  Participants are invited to submit their original scientific papers in English for oral or poster presentation. 

 Abstract(s) shall be limited to 200 words (excluding title, the name of author(s) and affiliations) typed in MS Word (Font: Times New Roman, 12 sizes, Single line spacing). The Participants shall indicate their preference for either Oral or Poster presentations. However, the final decision will rest with the Conference Organizing Committee.

Oral presentation: Each speaker will be provided 10 mins for oral presentation (8  mins for presentation and  2 mins for discussion).      LCD projector facilities will be made available for power  point presentations.   

 

Poster presentation: Posters of the standard size of 90 cm in width and 120 cm in height shall be displayed with text only in English.  

 

Publications: The papers presented during the conference will be considered for Publication either in journal of Seaweed Research and Utilization or Indian Hydrobiology Special issue, provided the manuscripts are submitted to Organizing Secretary during the Conference. Full papers in MS word typed in Times New Roman, 12 sizes with Single line spacing. The Submitted papers will be subjected to review by experts and acceptance is discretion of the Editorial Board.             

 

AWARDS
A committee of experts will evaluate the presentations and recommend awards for best three oral and three poster presentations.

MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE (MCC)

The 181 year old Madras Christian College (MCC) was founded in 1837 by the Rev. John Anderson at Madras. From 1937 onwards, the College is functioning in an extensive campus of 308 acres of scrub jungle vegetation at Tambaram. The college is one of the top colleges granted Autonomous status in the year 1978 and always remaining of the top 12 colleges for several years as per India Today. This year, MCC has been adjudged as one of the top 10 colleges in India by NIRF. The College was reaccredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in 2012-2013. In 2016 the College was awarded the status of ‘College with Potential for Excellence’. More than 7000 students are studying in the college in 32 departments under both Aided and Self-Financed streams offering Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research Programmes. The residential Halls-Selaiyur, St. Thomas’s & Heber for men and Martin, Margaret & Barnes for women, contribute to the rich cosmopolitan character of the campus life. DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

The Department of  Botany is one of the oldest Departments in the state of Tamil Nadu to teach botany since 1937. The department has acquired several facilities and instruments over the period of time through DBT-STAR College and DST-FIST programs besides liberal funding from DBT, Government of India and Department of Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu.  The Department provides infrastructure and instrumentation facilities to carry out research projects leading to M. Phil. and Ph. D. besides helping students to acquire UG and PG degrees for the past 81 years. Several members of the faculty are well known for their academic and scientific contributions in the form of high-level research, publication of books and floras.  The alumni of the Department occupy positions in leading colleges, universities and advanced research institutions around the world (www.mccbotbio@yolasite.com).

SRUA
Seaweed Research and Utilization Association (SRUA)

SRUA, a Non-Government Organization, was established on 6th September 1970 at the Marine Algal Research Station of Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR), Mandapam, Tamil Nadu by Prof. V. Krishnamurthy (Late), who was the Assistant Director of the Institute and Founder, President of SRUA. It has more than 200 members. SRUA organizes National Conference/Symposium/Workshops every year jointly with one of the research/ Educational Institutions on different aspects of marine algae. SRUA publishes    “Seaweed Research and Utilization Journal” (ISSN 0971-7560) biannually. Till now, 39 volumes have been published.

KRISHNAMURTHY INSTITUTE OF ALGOLOGY (KIA)

KIA was established by (late) Professor V. Krishnamurthy in 1991 and dedicated to serve the students and faculty in the field of Algology. The Institute is functioning at 9/2, Lady Madhavan Street, Mahalingapuram, Chennai-600 034. The institute celebrates its founding day since 2003 in the month of September mostly and distinguished algologists were conferred with Life Time Achievement Awards for their significant contribution towards Algal Research.

The institute has periodically published algal monographs covering marine green and brown algae and a first part of a book containing a collection of photomicrographs of Desmids, a group of freshwater algae. KIA publishes ‘Indian Hydrobiology’ (ISSN 0971-6548) from 1995 onwards. Indian Hydrobiology was founded by Prof. Krishnamurthy, serving as a platform to publish original research findings in all aspects of algal biology including freshwater and marine ecosystems (https://krishalgology.yolasite.com)
